Heavy bleeding can cause anaemia and I would agree the blood test is a good idea.

Certainly the heaviness of the period may be related to the implanon, see link below:

I would also wait until the results of the blood test before starting iron tablets.

Your GP may well advise you as to whether you should continue with the implanon or not, or whether other tests are required to review the cause of the bleeding.

Another useful link, which you might wish to review with your GP (as it is a bit medically worded) is below:

Good luck

i have an inplanon i am now on my third when it got to near the due date of it being removed i bled alot..it stopped 2 days befor it was changed.....everything back to normal day after new one in...
if you've been bleeding for three months then u probably are a anaemic (lack of red blood cells) but that can bee sorted out with iron tablets. have you been checked for polycystic ovaries?? i went through the same thing when i was 15 and eneded up having a blood transfusion! if you do have PCOS then this can interfere with the implant and cause excessive bleeding, pain etc. you should definatly look up PCOS. hope this helps.
why do people assume that anaemia is always due to iron defficiency? it is not necessarily true. i would get checked out for PCOS, and ask for a FBC blood test to check your red blood cell and iron count. too much iron is as dangerous, if not more dangerous, than not having enough. i would advise against taking iron tablets until the doctor has confirmed that these are necesary as your iron levels are low.
Go to your chemist and buy a iron suplement, you should feel a big difference and start feeling better in no time at all..
