How difficult is it to change bulb on a rear projection tv?

My gf family is throwing away a 2002 sony rear projection tv kp57hw40. I heard changing the bulb is as easy as changing the bukbs on your head light. Is that true or is it alot harder than that.

Btw any suggestion where i can get that bulb?|||Search the net for both the bulb and the info on how to change it.

The bulbs are about $200 to $300

Differences are that you have a series 1 bumper and red/orange tail lights. Mine has a series 2 bumper and white/red tail lights.

Alot of people like to swap their 88-89 tails for 90-91.

To do this you must get the 90-91 tails, bumper and trunk lid. Also there is a metal %26quot;wall%26quot; that can be either fabbed or bought so that the new tails fit right. Body kits can be seen on ebay also, not much to choose from. There is also the pricey xenon kit, which= teh sekks.

Oh yeah don%26#039;t buy any fuel pressure regulators or ecu chips, its all bull. Our ludes can%26#039;t be chipped. Especially yours, you have a PK1/PK2 ECU, OBD-0, you can be tuned but not by fake aftermarket computer chips.

Your year lude has the better looking front bumper IMO. You can get an HID (High Intensity Discharge) kit (blue lights that you want) for your fogs off of ebay for like $160.

Your headlights are different though. They are a sealed beam, so you would have to start off with an H4 conversion. You can get one off of ebay as well, just make sure that it is a glass lens and not plastic, because if you ever do an HID conversion, you%26#039;ll melt the housing. Check this site out for HID for our 3g.

http://www.preludepower.com/forums/showt鈥?/a>

There isnt alot of aftermarket support for this generation prelude. Most of the things you do to it will be custom. That is what sets it apart from all the ricey civics and tegs that everyone has. Most of their parts can be bought almost anywhere, and it doesnt make them unique. The best route to go with our engines is boost. Our engines are boost friendly. You wont make a lot of power with an N/A 3g engine. But of course you would need to do a tranny swap if you do decided to go this route. But if you don%26#039;t, the auto tranny in the 3g is fine. The gears are alot taller than those of other Honda%26#039;s.

One company makes a CAI for us but its not a true CAI because the filter is still in the engine bay. Thats www.lsdmotorsports.com But you can buy a 94-01 integra CAI off of ebay and trim it down a little bit and it will fit. And it%26#039;ll cost less than $50, just make sure you get a K%26amp;N filter with, ebay filters are junk.

DC sports are the best header for us, but they dont make them anymore, so if you ever find one, pick it up. 2nd best would be Hedman/Chikara headers, you can find those on www.summitracing.com, you have the B20a5 engine in it. Do not confuse it with the CRV B20b/z. Ours share almost nothing in common with the other B-series engines. Thermal R%26amp;D makes the best exhaust for our ludes also. They are hard to come by, but are the best.

In the states, there were 3 different engines, the carbed B20a3, B20a5, and the B21a1 that came in some 90-91 ludes. You can swap it out for a JDM B20a, which makes around 150hp stock. If you go this route, you must use your original intake manifold. JDM engines do not have an egr valve, and you will fail emissions.

For suspension the best is ground control coilovers, and tokico blues struts/shocks. Those are the best that are offered for our cars. Cusco makes strut bars and ingalls makes camber kits for us. Also you might want to get a 4WS front/rear rack, and distribution shaft. It%26#039;s probably the only thing the 3g lude is known for. The 4WS system is all mechanical unlike other vehicles which are electronically controlled. In 1987 the 88 prelude outslalomed lamborghinis, ferraris, porsches, the only car the beat it was the corvette. That%26#039;s saying something about the 3g ludes suspension.

Check out www.preludepower.com, most of the members are 3g owners so they%26#039;ll offer alot of knowledge on our ludes. Also you can get an idea in which way you want to go. What is wrong with my high beam toyota 4runner 2002 lights?

I have a Toyota 4Runner 2002 3.0TurboDiesel, and I have a problem with the headlights, the low beam head light works perfect, and the high beam head light works only when I pull the head light switch towards me (for a quick change of lights), but it does not work when I push the light switch forward (for a permanent change to high beam). The dealer tells me I have to change the turn signal/head light switch in the steering wheel, but they also say I have to change some control unit integrated circuits. They don%26#039;t seem to be sure what the problem is, so before buying some expensive integrated circuits, I wanted to hear some suggestions on how to troubleshoot the problem and/or confirm the dealer diagnostics.|||First, I am making an assumption that your diesel is wired the same as a gas one, as here in the US we don%26#039;t have the diesel. But the critical question is, %26quot;Does the truck have daytime running lights?%26quot; If no, the answer is simple: you need a headlight switch, which you canNOT disassemble to repair. It is one of the new modular ones that are all fastened together and can%26#039;t be fixed. However, if you DO have DRLs, the answer is MUCH more complicated because all inputs from the headlight switch go to one DRL relay (computer) and all functions are controlled from there. No doubt the dealer hedged in their answer because they know that the most likely answer is the switch, but want to leave room to cover themselves if that doesn%26#039;t fix it. Unfortunately, from studying the diagram, it would be really tricky to bypass the relay to test, and you would really have to know what you were doing. If it were in my shop, I would check for continuity across the switch in high beam ( pins 7 and 16, a violet wire and a white with black tracer wire). If none were there, I would put the switch in and hope for the best. I might would even see if I could find another vehicle and borrow the relay just to be safe, but I completely understand their hesitation. I tell you, until you try to diagnose these modern cars (which is what I do every day!) you just don%26#039;t understand what we are up against. In this specific case, if you follow the diagnostic tree for inoperative high beams in the diagnostic section of the Toyota Information System, it gives you location of the components and NO help on diagnosis.

Maybe you could cut the guys a break......

Hope this helps. God Bless!|||Most likely it is the switch in the steering column. It is easy, less time consuming and more profitable for them to order a new switch, replace it and charge you for it. BUT it is possible all the switch needs is dismantling and the contacts cleaning and put back together.

It is also time consuming for them to diagnose electrical problems and hunt about the wring looms in inconvenient places looking for inoperative circuits, hence why they told you it may be the circuits, it may be the switch. Not very helpful at all.|||the high beam on the switch is out you will need a new switch

It will not be a fuse or fuse box problem because the headlamp flash part of the switch works. On this model I am not sure where your side and headlamp switch is located. If it is part of the column switch then this will need replacing together with the dip switch. If it is separate on the dash panel then this should be OK to leave as it is working fine if the lights work on dip beam.

It sounds as if the dealer is hedging his bets. Engine not "Timed" right after Head Change, makes "Whirrr" Noise, how can i get ti Timed?

(:|||Well it depends on what is wrong with your headlights? If it is the bulbs you just simply take off the wires from the back of the bulb and then undo a clip then change the bulb. If it is the lens, it might be yellow or worn, you will have to order one either online or from a dealer. They are pretty easy to install. just look for every screw that is attached to the headlamps and install the one you bought the same way you took the old one out.|||The best thing to try would be to go back to the garage that just made a bundle off the car and ask if they can give you some pointers. If it is just the bulbs that need changing perhaps they will do it for free. If its the complete head light assy. then at least they can point out hidden screws and such. If you plan on working on the car yourself or if you just want to know whats what with your car the best investment would be a Hanes repair manual for your car.

Can I replace a driver's side mirror myself?

My driver%26#039;s side mirror got broken some how. It%26#039;s just the actual mirror glass itself that is broken, there is nothing wrong with the setting it was in or anything. I tested the setting just to make sure it was okay, I tried pushing it and pulling it and shaking it, but it is just as secure as always.

So I bought a replacement mirror yesterday. I went to a shop and they told me that couldn%26#039;t do it, because they couldn%26#039;t obtain just the glass and could only get the whole setting. I called the dealer and they want to charge me $300 to put the new mirror glass in.

The cover stock of your light aseembly is plastic. the best way is to drill a hole on the left side and the right as well underneath the crease of your plastic cover. there just out to make a buck and don%26#039;t give a crap about you, just your money.

HID Bulb Replacement

A transient high tension (25,000 V ) occurs at the bulb sockets of the high intensity discharge (HID) lamps when the combination light switch is turned ON, it may cause serious electrical shock or electrocution if you do not observe the cautions below.

CAUTION:

Never turn on the combination light switch before fitting the HID bulbs to their bulb sockets and completing the reassembly of the headlight assembly.

Do not service the headlights assembly in wet conditions, such as rain or snow, near a sprinkler system, or when your hands are wet to prevent electrocution.

Do not touch the surface of the HID bulbs with your bare hands and do not stain it with any oils and fats.

Do not disassemble the inverter unit and the ignitor unit.

Do not turn on the HID bulb by using a power source other than the battery mounted on your vehicle.

Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then write down the XM radio channel preset. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.

Turn the combination light switch OFF.

Disconnect the battery negative cable, then disconnect the positive cable.

Remove the headlight assembly.

Remove the Torx bolt using a tamper-proof Torx T20 bit.

Turn the cover (A) 45 掳 counterclockwise to remove it from the headlight assembly.

Turn the socket (A) 45 掳 counterclockwise to remove it from the bulb (B).

Pull the retaining spring (C) away from the bulb then remove the bulb.

Make sure the bulb harness (D) is routed correctly so it does not contact the reflector (E).

Install the new bulb in the reverse order of removal. Make sure the notches in the bulb align with the tabs in the headlight.

After reconnecting the battery, enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then enter the customer%26#039;s XM radio channel presets.

In response to Fizzle the HID system requires the HID bulb

High intensity is just as it sounds and used an amplifier to power the bulb If you install a bulb that is not the proper bulb you can cause a fire due to the bulb overheating and possibly exploding causing injury (see the precautions above)|||That sucks. How can they possibly charge that much unless they put the car together so stupidly that it takes an expert to do such a simple task? Now that I think of it, I do have an Acura but it%26#039;s over ten years older. This is stupid because I%26#039;ve only needed to replace bulbs that cost $10 to $20. Are you sure a cheaper bulb wouldn%26#039;t fit? Most of the bulbs I%26#039;ve changed only required twisting a ring to release the bulb from the back of the fixture and then pulling up a catch to release the bulb from the socket. Check what you have and talk to someone from an auto parts store--you may not actually NEED an HID bulb and another cheaper bulb might fit. Are you driving 100mph? Do you really need high intensity? This business of replacing both of them is a dead giveaway that this is a scam. You don%26#039;t need to replace a bulb that hasn%26#039;t burned out yet, especially not at those prices.

How would one change some lights on a 2ed gen durango?

So, how can some one change the interior dome lights of a 2006 durango? Like if one wanted to put new colored bulbs in? dome lights such as on the lift gate, the second row seating and the above the dash board. also, how would one change the head lights on a 2006 durango as well?

thanks|||For the dome lights, just remove the cover to the light. A small flat blade screw driver works well for this. Just don%26#039;t break the tabs. Start in the middle of the longest side. This is where the cover is weakest and you can pry it to see the tabs. If it is a clear lens, you should be able to see the tabs through the lens on the edges. They will be small rectangles.

As far as the headlights, this is a bit trickier as some of the bolts are behind the bumper. If you have small hands and quite dexterous you may be able to wrench them out. Or a 1/4 inch ratchet with a shallow 10mm may squeeze between the bumper and headlamp. Then the upper ones and then a lot of prying to get it out. It%26#039;s a tight fit and a stupid design.

How do I change a low beam head light in a 2001 jeep grand cherokee?

I took out the battery but I could not get to the bulb.|||this is actually very easy. open up the hood, there will be one long screw that you take out, then just pull on the entire unit, it will pop out, but it does take a little force since there are these ball joint type pieces (kinda hard to describe) that hold it in. Once you get the unit out, just unclip the wires from the bulb, then take out the old bulb, put in the new one, hook it back up and put it back in. Should take about 10 minutes.|||on a jeep you would have o open the hood and go from the inside then undo some srews then the lights shouldscrew right in|||you actually have to remove the screws and the whole headlight housing comes right out ..

How do you change the head lights in a 2007 Suburban?

I have had a 1997 suburban and to cahnge the headlights you removed the headlight assembly and got the bulb out in back. Now with my 2007 I can get the the top two screens, but not the bottom. Almost seems that I have to remove the nose of the truck, how do you do it?

How to change a head light in a 2001 grand am?

My girlfriend has a 02 Grand Am and this job is kinda stupid. You have to take the headlight assembly out of the car!

First, remove the plastic trim between the front grille and the rad support. There%26#039;s about a dozen plastic push clips that have to come out.

Next, pull up on the black painted sheet metal retaining clip(s), there might be two, I don%26#039;t remember anymore. It%26#039;s about 1-1/4%26quot; wide and bent at 90 degrees. If it%26#039;s rusty, use a prybar against a block of wood on the rad support to lift it up. It needs to come up a few inches, then the whole headlight will come out.

I recommend replacing all of the bulbs at the same time (yellow wedge bulbs too), because you%26#039;ve done so much work just to get to the headlight bulb, it would suck to have to do it again in a few months because your corner marker bulb burnt out.

Reverse the procedure to put it all back together. Make sure you get the adjuster mechanism lined up before you push the clips back down to secure the headlamp assembly.|||it`s a bulb and you get to it under the hood you may have to take out the battery or what ever is on the other side to do this|||If memeory serves me correctly,

Open the hood and you will see two black knobs about the size of a milk bottle cap. Undo these and the entire assembly will come out to access the bulb in the back . Undo the large black ring on the back of the assembly and gently pull the bulb out. Reverse the process for installation.

NOTE

Dont touch the new bulb with your hands......

The oils on your hands will effect the life of the bulb.

Hope this helps

PLEASE HELP !!!!|||The bulb is expensive because it%26#039;s a High Intensity Discharge (HID) bulb. Buy it from %26quot;Auto Parts World%26quot;. Changing the bulb yourself is not too difficult. You may be able to simply twist it (directly behind the headlight assembly), then pull it away from the headlight. Or you may need what is called a %26quot;T-2 Torx%26quot; screwdriver. It%26#039;s screwdriver that has a point shaped like a star. You can get a torx screwdriver at any decent hardware store. You use the torx tool to unscrew the black plastic housing. Twist the housing to loosen it. The bulb can then be removed. DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS PART OF THE NEW BULB WITH YOUR BARE HANDS.|||The reason they charge so much is because, you may have to remove other components to reach them. but, $120. sounds like a lot. That%26#039;s just the bulb or the whole asembly? Anyway, you probably have to remove a cover orf some sort from the back of the assembly behind the bulb. Then there should be a clip. A piece of thin metal that sort of resembles a paper clip. Unhook it and pull out the bulb and unplug it. You mostly need a flash light and probably some basic tools.

How to get the change head ligth on a bmw 318i 1985?

i need to change the head lights in my bmw 1985 318i car but i dont know how to get the lights off|||there are Philips screws around the front black plastic pieces that are surround the headlights, these pieces are not connected but separated by the kidney, so once you took one of them off ( the side of the headlight you want to change) you can see the screws that hold the headlights I think they are 10 mm then you will be able to take off the the whole headlight the high and low beam together and if you want to change just one of them i think you can do it while the whole light is out.

I used to have a BMW e21 European and when i need to change the bulb I was able to change it by just taking off the cover from inside the hood, then when I bought an American style one the headlights where different and if one of them burned out you need to change the whole light not just the bulb I don%26#039;t know if the e30 model is the same. How hard is it to change out a head light switch in a'89 Ford truck.?

The problem started out with not having tail lights and interior dash lights. The head lights were still working. The brake lights still work. I was told by an experienced mechanic of many years that the problem could be the head light switch. Any ideas anyone? I would appreciate them!|||Those don%26#039;t have the release buttons on the back of the switch. The knobs are held on by a triangular spring clip. Look around the rear of the knob and you should see a small cu-out area. Use a hooked tool to release the clip while pulling off the knob. The ALLDATA instructions for the rest of the job is below. Look real hard at the wiring connections for any signs of overheating or melted plastic. You may need to replace the connector.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

Remove knobs from headlight switch, windshield wiper switch and fog light switch (if equipped). Use a suitable hook tool to release each knob lock tab.

Remove steering column shroud, then the cluster finish panel assembly, Fig. 6.

Remove switch attaching nut, Fig. 6.

Disconnect electrical connector from switch and remove switch from vehicle.

Reverse procedure to install.|||real hard take it to some person that can do it|||hey it aint bad, just watch the pull knob, it has a release on the backside and if you hose it or strip the plastic, it%26#039;ll rattle and never stay on. i think you just push the wedge in and pull the knob off. when you have it off, ive always rebent the keeper so it would grip tight. its not fun with your head under the dash. if you drop the 4 bolts on the steering column, you can move it sideways. then id pull the seat, and lay on my back. this is how i got the pawl and quadrant down to 2 hrs for a 5.0.|||Yes it is definatley your headlight switch. If your head light switch is mounted on your dash......no problem a quick 15-20 minute job whick I think you have. If you have your light switch on the steering column with a lever like a turn signal. Your looking at about an hours work with the correct special tools. Don%26#039;t try it yourself if it is in the steering column. Good luck.|||Fords are the worst piece of crap vehicles ever. I had a headlight problem on an 86 Mustang and an 89 Aerostar. Two friends of mine had a similar problem on a Thunderbird and on an Escort.

I replaced the switch on the Mustang and the wiring harness on the Aerostar. I%26#039;m not a mechanic and I don%26#039;t know much about cars, but I looked over the situation and did both jobs myself. The wiring harness would have been a very expensive job had it not been for my being able to find one at a junkyard. Good luck and I%26#039;ll NEVER buy another Ford.|||Its Pretty easy... you need to get to where you can place your hand behind the dash where the switch is located on the switch there is a spring loaded button...

depressing it while gently pushing back and forth slighlty on the knob (sometimes rotating the knob like you%26#039;re turnin op or down the lights also will disengage it try both one will work)

you pull to turn the lights on should cause this knob with the actuator rod attached to pull loose from the switch...

next at the location the rod came out of there is a collar (usually Chromed) with 3 -4 notches in it this must be rotated counter clock wise about 6 turns or so until the switch comes free from the dash..

now unplug old switch from harness and plug in the new one... Place new switch upto the hole start the collar (retainer) by rotating it clockwise this time...

be sure to align up the locator notch in dash with the locator tab on switch now tighten collar until tight....

take actuator rod and place into the hole and push straight forward till you feel it start to bottom then push just a little more ...

you should feel and hear a slight click as the retainer sets on the grooved area at the tip of the rod...

try pulling the knob out to see if lights work... Lights work!!

Congratulations you just changed your first headlight switch and saved yourself at least $12-15 to pay a mechanic...

How do I change the HID head light on a 2004 Saab 93?

I have a 04 Saab 93 and the driver side head light needs to be changed out. I bought the light but I am not sure how to change it. Can anyone help? Do you know a good website to go to for directions?|||Take a look at the back of the headlight. I assume you are referring to the low beam, since the high beams are not fitted with HID. There should be a casing at the back. Take it off and you should have access to the plug that is connected directly to the bulb. Remove any obstructions such as the airbox or the battery to gain easy access to the back of the headlight. It%26#039;s very simple. If you cannot reach the bulb at the back of the heaadlight, then you may have to remove the whole headlight from the car. If that%26#039;s the case, you would need to take the front bumper bar off. It would be more complex.

Check out the blog www.hidledlights.info for more info on HID and LED lights.

Required items: a replacement, sealed-beam lamp and the appropriate screwdriver(s)?usually a Phillips-head (right), sometimes a Torx (left).

For easier access, remove the headlight trim piece if so equipped. This plastic trim ring is attached with a T-15 Torx screw at each corner.

Unscrew the headlight bezel. This lamp is secured with four Phillips-head screws (two on top and two below).

With the bezel removed, the lamp can easily be removed and unplugged from its wiring connector.

Plug in the new lamp and reverse the disassembly steps. Always check headlight aim when replacing a lamp.
