Anymore Catastrophes That Will Kill Millions?

I mean I know EVENTUALLY.

I mean like how? and what's the next mass extinction?

FACTS:

Global Warming

Green House Gases

Asteroid in 2043 that will wipe out 2/3 of human population ( not sure )

a few miles would make a catastrophe, kill billions of animals and people, radiation, dust in the atmosphere will block the sun light and change the weather, tsunamis, volcanic activity and more

Massive Earthquake that's overdue for couple of hundreds of years

STDs

Mad Cow Diseases- When they are killed for their meat, people dont eat their head, so ranchers grind their head and foot and feed it back to cows, and cows NEED to eat plants so their brain gets stressed and they make a disease called Mad Cow Disease, people who eats their meat will die in a painful death.

Human Population Overgrowing- in the 1990's the population was almost 1billion, now its over 6billion...

Killing forests

Pollution in oceans and lakes

Nuclear Weapons

Nuclear Materials

H5N1- The bird flu, not yet able to move on to other people, so its mutating quickly so it'll be able to move from one person to another.

Super Volcano

Pathogens

Any More?

Please This is Important So Be Serious and Reply What You Think

2012 is not when the world is going to end

2012 is when the Mayans calender ended.

but does that mean our world is going to end just because their calender ended? No.

For An Example: Im sure people have calenders in their room that will last about an year. when that calender ended did we all die? No.

The Canary islands mega-tsunami scenario, a hypothetical 'worst case', would be catastrophic to the Eastern USA if the whole chunk were to slide at once.

Some scientists think it's not a big deal and will slide in piece by piece.

the gamma ray burst from a distant star.
We are currently already in the middle of the 6th mass extinction, caused by human influenced environmental changes like global warming, pollution and habitat destruction. The current extinction rate is greater than any of the 5 previous mass extinctions, which pretty much blows away any arguments that this is a 'natural process' since it's completely unlike anything seen previously in nature. At the current rate, one half of all species will be extinct in 100 years. I say that's the #1 threat, environmental destruction, since it's *already happening*.

There is no known asteroid that is going to collide with earth at any time in the future (tracking potentially hazardous asteroids is my job) and volcanic eruptions can not be predicted to a specific time frame so we can't say that one is 'overdue by hundreds of years'. Once you have a volcano that's 'overdue' (meaning it's past it's _average_ eruption period, there is no set eruption period) by 10,000 years or so, then you MAY have something to worry about.

Uhh, the fact that almost 50% of americans seem to want to vote for the same party that has put us through 8 years of war and economic recession due to their insistence on governing via primitive religious rules is something serious to think about here. Let's just run ourselves ever further into the ground and ever closer to WW3. In that respect, stupidity and self-righteousness might be a contender for the biggest threat.

Pandemics and overpopulation are two other realistic ones.
I wouldn't worry about 2007 VK184 just yet. The analysis is based on 101 observations spanning 60.013 days (2007-Nov-12.13904 to 2008-Jan-11.15189). This isn't alot. And, it only has a 1 in 3000 shot just now. It's first possible impact is 2048 - not 2043.

You might wonder why it hasn't been observed since January. That's because it's not visible just now. They'll pick it up again when it's visible again. Chances are, the probability of impact will go to zero. One more observation, and it will have nearly a year of time span for observations. And the probability will likely go to zero because even one in 3,000 is pretty close to zero.

The next great mass extinction is now. We're causing it. Every 20 minutes, another species goes extinct. Mostly it's due to loss of habitat. We're last in line.
